Un Petit Bagage d'Amour : A suitcase to ensure that every birth rhymes with dignity

Because every baby deserves to be welcomed with tenderness, even in precarious circumstances.

Un Petit Bagage d’Amour : Une valise pour que chaque naissance rime avec dignité | What The Web

There are gestures that change a life. For some pregnant women who are homeless or in very precarious situations, this gesture takes the form of a carefully prepared bag filled with clothes, hygiene products and love. This is the aim of Un Petit Bagage d'Amour, an association that supports the most vulnerable mothers-to-be, so that they can experience the arrival of their child with a little more serenity.

A dignified birth for all

Founded in 2016 by midwife Samra Seddik, the association was born out of a shock: seeing a woman pregnant with twins arrive at the maternity hospital with a plastic bag as her only luggage. Since then, UPBDA has set itself a simple and essential mission: to offer every woman in great precariousness a "baggage of love", i.e. a complete maternity kit, ready to use, to welcome her baby in the best possible conditions. The bag contains diapers, clothes, towels, hygiene products and sometimes even a kind word. Over 12,000 children have already benefited.

Gifts, hands, hearts

Housed in a former library in the Saint-Sulpice church in Paris, the Un Petit Bagage d'Amour team - nicknamed "Les Cigognes" - is made up of some 50 dedicated volunteers who sort, wash, fold, assemble and deliver the bags to over 150 partner social structures: hospitals, shelters, street associations... The association relies entirely on the solidarity of its members: material donations (layette, bodies, care products), financial donations, sponsorship, and above all a great deal of human time and energy.

Smooth but efficient logistics

Every month, more than 300 bags are distributed, according to a rigorous, artisanal approach. Thanks to local branches that are beginning to spring up elsewhere in France, the model is gradually spreading. The association aims to be inclusive, secular and apolitical, focusing solely on the essentials: restoring a little dignity where all else is lacking.

Love as the driving force

Through this project, Un Petit Bagage d'Amour restores meaning to the act of being born: that of a collective impulse, of shared tenderness, of care for the invisible. Here, no grand speeches, but concrete gestures, suitcases that say "you count", clothes that say "welcome", actions that say "you're not alone".
