Free pricing: how to budget a site without crashing?

No hidden fees, no traps. But to make it work, you need to know what you're getting into.

Free pricing is no jungle

At What The Web, free pricing isn't a marketing gimmick.
It's a commitment. A way of making the web accessible to all SSE structures, whatever their means. But freedom doesn't mean improvisation.

Not sure where to start? No need to panic. Here are the keys to estimating your contribution - and avoiding unpleasant surprises (for you and for us).

1. Start by identifying your needs

Complete redesign or simple showcase? Site with calendar, forms, registrations? Members' area, eshop, custom modules?
Before thinking about a figure, describe your project as simply as possible. And if you're hesitating, that's normal: we're here to ask the right questions.

For example: a 3-4-page showcase site for a third-party venue can cost between €800 and €1,200. A complete site with registration or membership modules is likely to cost around €2,000 to €3,000.

2. Be transparent about your resources

Free pricing works on trust. No need to "negotiate": just tell us what's realistic for you. We'll adapt the support or deliverables accordingly.

"We're a young cooperative with a small budget at the moment, but we want a site that can evolve."
"We've got a solid foundation, so we can put in €5,000 for a well-rounded site."

Both are understandable. What counts is clarity from the outset.

3. Think in overall costs, not just technical costs

A site isn't just coded pages.
It's about :

  • a time for listening and framing,

  • customized art direction,

  • personalized integration,

  • sometimes training or specific modules.

Your contribution supports the whole process. And the fact that it's tailor-made, human and committed.

4. You can also spread your budget

Lack of short-term visibility? We talk about it.
Many of the structures we work with spread their contribution over several months, or come back to us with an extension after a while.

We're alwaysadapting. The idea is to make it sustainable for you, and fair for us.

In short: freedom, yes - but with clarity

The free price is not a vague tariff. It's a pact of trust. By talking openly about your needs, your means and your expectations, together we can build a site that's just like you... without ruining you or putting us to any trouble. In doubt? Let's talk about it.
